Two Spirits in History

Before European Christians forced gender roles, Native Americans acknowledged five genders: male, female, two-spirit males, two-spirit females and transgendered.

Two-spirits and transgendereds were highly revered throughout pre-invasion America.  The first peoples thought that a person who was able to see the world through the eyes of both genders at once was a gift from the Creator.
